Fire & Char paintmaking workshop
Saturday 4th October, 2-4:30pm, £35
Radical Plant Folk, School Farm, Dartington, Totnes

As the nights draw in, come and make your own botanical black watercolour paint, working with fire and charcoal at Radical Plant Folk.
We’ll gather round the fire and experiment with making char from different foraged plant materials, then turn these into watercolour paints. This process can help us connect with the fire inside of us, and we’ll work with the paints we’ve made to draw & discover what we might want to honour, release & transform at this time of year.
You’ll go home with:
-
Your own carbon black watercolour paint made from the fire
-
An understanding of the char process
-
A handout to follow along at home, along with any drawings you’ve made
-
The lingering smell of firesmoke!
Refreshments provided, please wear appropriate clothing for sitting outdoors and by the fire. There is a covered area in case it rains.

Natural ink making workshop
Thursday 23rd October, 1-4pm, £35
Moor Imagination Centre, Buckfastleigh

An afternoon of natural colourmaking, where you’ll learn how to make your own watercolour inks from local plants, trees, food waste and scrap metals.
Facilitated by artist Ione Maria Rojas, you’ll be guided through different methods for making plant-based watercolour inks, an alchemical process which reveals the colours of our local landscapes and our connections with other ecologies.
By the end of the day you'll have an ink to take home with you, a recipe card, any drawings you’ve made and a handful of ideas for how to use your inks for your own creative practice.
