workshop & collaboration with South West Queer Nature Club // UK, 2025
Hello Oak was a collaborative workshop with South West Queer Nature Club and Proud2Be CIC, exploring the oak as both ecological ancestor and queer metaphor. Participants learned to make oak gall ink while delving into the tree’s mythology, biology, and entanglement with hundreds of other beings. We questioned the oak’s patriarchal associations, reframing it instead as a monoecious, multi-being organism — a living site of multiplicity, interdependence, and transformation.

Through storytelling, drawing, and material engagement, the workshop asked: How does learning about the more-than-human (plant, rock, animal, insect) help us shift out of rigid human definitions, borders, and binaries around identity, home, and transformation?

Hello Oak fue un taller colaborativo con el Club de Naturaleza Queer del Suroeste y Proud2Be CIC, que exploró el roble como ancestro ecológico y metáfora queer. Los participantes aprendieron a elaborar tinta de agalla de roble mientras profundizaban en la mitología, la biología y su relación con cientos de otros seres. Cuestionamos las asociaciones patriarcales del roble, reformulándolo como un organismo monoico y multisere: un espacio vivo de multiplicidad, interdependencia y transformación.

A través de la narración, el dibujo y la interacción con materiales, el taller se planteó la siguiente pregunta: ¿Cómo nos ayuda el aprendizaje sobre lo más que humano (planta, roca, animal, insecto) a superar las rígidas definiciones humanas, las fronteras y las dicotomías en torno a la identidad, el hogar y la transformación?
